Counselor Llena pointed out that the DAR has given maximum support to the nomination from the beginning.

The Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, Joaquim Llena, and the director of the Mediterranean Diet Foundation (FDM), Joan Castells, Barcelona have signed a collaboration agreement with the aim of jointly promoting the Mediterranean diet and food items that are a part. The ceremony took place in the Central Services Department of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (DAR) in Barcelona. The Vice President of the FDM, Francisco Sensat, and the director general of Agricultural Planning and Relations, Antoni Diaz, were also present during the signing.

This is the renewal of a collaboration agreement between the two parties that has been signed since 2004, when the DAR joined the FDM, one of the most active foundations in the dissemination of culture Catalan cuisine, with willingness to undertake new projects, new research and new proposals to raise awareness of the cultural heritage of the Mediterranean Diet.

Indeed, the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage will decide in Nairobi between November 15th and 19th if the Mediterranean Diet and Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO should be included. Spain, Greece, Italy and Morocco have jointly bid crime and the promoters of the initiative, the FDM, believe there is a 99% odds of choice. According to the Foundation, “The reports we have received are positive and will be a great milestone to consolidate in the future.”

Counselor Llena, for his part, recalled that the department gave maximum support to the nomination when it began to take shape and pointed out that the diet is “a feel good factor and a proactive element of health.” Increasingly, stakeholders, nutritionists, gourmet or academics who endorse and extol the virtues of the Mediterranean Diet, said the Counselor, adding that “in the food world there are few concepts as universal and admired as our diet. Numerous studies certify and validate it. “
