The FDM and Casa Mediterráneo collaborate in disseminating the values of the Mediterranean Diet


-          The FDM and the public institution based in Alicante signed today a collaboration agreement with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation

-          The first joint activity will be the organization of courses and workshops in schools to promote the diet among Spanish students.

Executive Vice-President of the Mediterranean Diet Foundation, Francisco Sensat, and the director general of Casa Mediterráneo, Yolanda Parrado, signed today, February 1st, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation in Madrid, a collaboration agreement to promote and develop activities to disseminate and promote the values of the Mediterranean Diet, declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by the UNESCO on November 16th in Nairobi (Kenya).

The result of this agreement is the joint organization of courses and workshops for schoolchildren to be taught in school in Spain to inculcate the benefits of this diet among children.

The goal, according to Parrado, is to improve children’s eating habits in terms of quality and healthy habits, and to promote the added value of a lifestyle that combines ingredients from local agriculture, recipes and regional cooking methods, shared meals, celebrations and traditions with modernity. Sharing a valuable cultural heritage with embraces al the peoples of the Mediterranean basin, consisting of elements of these societies, landscapes, agriculture techniques, culinary gestures, flavours and fragrances, colours, legends and devotions.

Francisco Sensat recalled that the Mediterranean Diet is part of our cultural, historical, social and environmental heritage for many centuries and is closely linked to the lifestyle of the Mediterranean peoples throughout its history. Sensat emphasized that this diet characterized by distinctive products that match the most iconic productions and their economic weight in Spanish food production is very high, not to mention the health benefits of the Mediterranean food pattern.

Among the general areas of collaboration that includes the agreement are to promote relations and scientific and technical nature between the two institutions for the design of cultural projects, collaborate on cultural projects and programs and courses to stimulate discussion and exchange of experiences and establish partnerships with other institutions for similar purposes.
