The FDM accredited by the UNESCO General Assembly to carry out consultative duties.

During the session of the General Assembly of States Parties to the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage held in Paris from Jun 22-24, the Mediterranean Diet Foundation was accredited to perform advisory functions on the Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage.

The FDM was recommended for accreditation as a nongovernmental organization to perform consulting duties, during the third session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage held in Istanbul form November 4th to 8th 2008 and this recommendation has been confirmed by the General Assembly. In addition to the FDM, five Spanish NGOs were also accredited: UNESCO Centre of Navarre, UNESCO Centre of Catalonia, UNESCO Centre of San Sebastian, UNESCO Centre of the Autonomous City of Melilla and Borjano Studies Centre of the “Ferdinand the Catholic” Institution.

It should also be noted that Spain has been elected member of the UNESCO Intangible Heritage Committee. This Committee, consisting of 23 countries plus Spain, with a term of four years, is the body responsible for deciding which nominations become part of the Representative List of Intangible Heritage, of the Urgent Safeguarding List, and of the projects that reflect in the most appropriate manner the principle and objectives of the Convention.
