NEWSMediterranean Diet children’s workshops on fruit and health
This week the Mediterranean Diet children’s workshops on fruit and health have started, to promote the consumption of fruit in schools in the Canary Islands. This first stage will end in December 2009 and the second stage will take place from January 2010 to May 2010 with the goal of reaching approximately 11,000 children between the ages of 3 and 12.
These actions ensure the effectiveness of the strategic program for Fruit in schools, and which are a part of the Mediterranean Diet, because of the benefits they have on the health of schoolchildren and their families as well as for agriculture on the Canary Islands.
On October 16th 2008, an agreement was signed between the Ministries of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food, Education, Universities, Culture and Sports, Health and Tourism, the Autonomous Canary Agency for Food Quality, the Canary Government and the Mediterranean Diet Foundation, to carry out actions to promote Canary agricultural and fishery products that are part of the Mediterranean Diet.
