Mediterranean Diet Surveillance System

In 2005, the FDM, together with the City council of Barcelona, created the Mediterranean Diet Surveillance System, a multisectoral project, since by its very nature, encompasses diverse fields such as nutrition and diet, the economy – agro-food industry and the primary sector-, health and epidemiology, food, education or culture.

First ODM Report

The first report, presented in February 2005, states that the exportation of the main Mediterranean Diet products is on the rise, which is important for Catalonia, since this sector represents the second most important industrial activity of the community.

It also analyses the consumption trends in Spain and in Catalonia during the past few decades, as well as the evolution of the obesity rates, in adults and in children, both at the national level as well as international level.

Second ODM Report

The second report analyses the evolution of the adherence to the Mediterranean Diet in Spain during the past 20 years. It includes quantitative and mapped information on the production of the principal foods that characterise this emblematic food pattern in the Mediterranean, and it analyses the food industry in the city of Barcelona and its metropolitan region.

It also presents data on specific mortality of 3 diseases related to nutrition in the population over 35, between the years 1985-2005.

Third ODM Report

This third report studies the adherence to the Mediterranean Diet by different countries around the world for a period of 40 years (1960-2005) and evaluated the availability of some Mediterranean food items.
